This lecture will take us to the mountain-tops of China to some of the oldest wooden buildings in the world - the Buddhist temples of Wutaishan. Built in the eighth century their design is infused with symbolism from Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian traditions.

Jon Cannon, presenter of BBC television's How to Build a Cathedral, explores examples of the great faiths that have dominated the history of Chinese civilisation.
