El Greco: A Cretan in Toledo
2014 is the 400th anniversary of El Greco's death, but his unique livid colours and elongated figures live on through his work. Heavily influenced by his initial training as an icon painter and then by the artists of the High Renaissance and Mannerism in Venice and Rome, El Greco was a great assimilator and adaptor.
Gail Turner explores the life and works of the Cretan-born artist and sculptor who became the architect of the Spanish Renaissance.
