January 2012

Wed 11th at 8pm - Gold Craftsmanship in Prehistoric Europe: All that Glitters (EDFAS)

Since the earliest use of gold around 6,500 years ago, it has been desired and shaped by generations of craftsmen. An illustrated talk by Dr Ben Roberts, Curator of Early Prehistory at the British Museum and co-writer of BBC ‘History of The World in 100 Objects’.

The Bristol Ensemble (formerly Emerald Ensemble) is Bristol's professional chamber orchestra and is renowned for its accessible, passionate, warm and virtuoso performances. Tonight they play music by Brahms, Weber & Mozart.

Wed 8th at 8pm - William Hogarth (EDFAS)

Rosalind Whyte - guide & lecturer at Tate Britain & Tate Modern - looks at the life & work of William Hogarth, the great 17th Century painter, engraver, satirist & social commentator famous for works such as Gin Lane and The Rake's Progress.

Join the raw, guitar-wielding Nick Helm (as seen on Russell Howard's Good News, winner of the 2010 Best Joke of the Fringe award), part-time Geography teacher Mark Cooper Jones, the laid-back Paul James and MC Kieran Boyd for a good laugh. Not only looking like the originals but sounding like them too, Sincerely Abba are back in Evesham with their show featuring all the hits. Prince Henry's High School presents their version of this classic Broadway show. Story and characters by Damon Runyon, music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows (by kind permission of Josef Weinberger). Saturday night's performance will be a Gala show - smart dress/black tie is encouraged & a drink is included in the ticket price.

Tue 20th - Sat 24th at 7:30pm - Hot Mikado (EODS)

It's Gilbert & Sullivan like you've never seen them before!
This update of The Mikado takes place in the mythical village of Titi-Pu, where a young trumpet player is on the run from his overeager fiancée and searching for the woman who stole his heart. This snappy adaptation of a classic operetta includes musical styles ranging from jazz to swing to gospel to blues - including a show-stopping homage to the Andrews Sisters.

Laugh out loud with the cream of comedy-club comedians! This month's headline act is the legendary beast of comedy Chris Lynam - a wild clown in a class of his own - supported by Tom Toal and musical comedian Ashley Frieze. MC Jarred Hardy will be calling the shots.

American photographer Lee Miller and painter Roland Penrose made Farley Farm near Chiddingly a centre for surrealist art, visited by the likes of Picasso, Man Ray, Henry Moore, Eileen Agar, Jean Dubuffet, Dorothea Tanning & Max Ernst. Evesham's 2012 Comedy Festival kicks off with the best of RAW Comedy: Six of your favourite up & coming comics return to the Foyer: Dominic Elliott-Spencer, Billy Hill, Adam Henderson, Scott Bennett, Ben Hutchinson & Frankie Peoples - plus Aaron Telling as MC.

Evesham's 2012 Comedy Festival continues as three great acts from the comedy circuit hit the Arts Centre stage. Headline is BBC Radio 1's Tom Deacon with the amazing Matt Richardson and the cuddly Chris Norton-Walker plus Dan Wright (of Big Cook Little Cook fame) as MC.

The new host of Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week, team captain on 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee & best-selling author will be bringing his show Funny Magnet to Evesham on 30th June. Discussing the everyday items that have a profound effect on his outlook, Funny Magnet sees Jon working his pessimism with some hilarious consequences - and as always with his loveable vivacious delivery.
